Crawl Space Repair in Greenway, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Greenway, Virginia contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after discovering a musty odor and sagging floors in their home. Over time, they noticed doors becoming harder to close and slight dips forming in the flooring. Suspecting a foundation issue, they had their crawl space inspected. The crawl space had exposed dirt floors, damp insulation, and visible condensation on wooden beams and floor joists. Moisture from the soil was constantly evaporating upward, keeping the entire space humid and wet.
This uncontrolled moisture created the perfect environment for wood rot and mold growth. Several support beams already showed signs of deterioration, and the insulation had lost its effectiveness due to saturation. As warm air rose into the home, it carried moisture and mold spores with it, affecting both indoor air quality and comfort. The homeowner worried that if the moisture was not controlled soon, costly structural repairs could become necessary.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions designed a permanent crawl space moisture-control system to eliminate the problem at its source. The installation began with the CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier, which was placed over the entire crawl space floor and extended up the walls and piers. This thick liner sealed the crawl space from the wet soil, stopping moisture vapor from entering the air.
To keep the space dry year-round, we installed the SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier. This high-performance system continuously removes excess humidity while filtering out mold spores and airborne particles. With humidity reduced to safe levels, the wood structure was able to dry and remain protected from further decay.
After installation, the crawl space became a clean, dry, controlled environment. The musty odor disappeared, floors became more stable, and the homeowner gained confidence knowing their home’s structure was fully protected from moisture damage.
