Fortress Foundation Solutions Q&A

Do you have to empty the dehumidifier in the crawl space all the time?

Whether or not you have to empty the dehumidifier in the crawl space all of the time depends on the type of dehumidifier you have. For instance, our SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier is self-draining. It removes up to 95 pints of water per day without requiring someone to empty it.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We work with Enerbank, a nationwide company that specializes in home improvement loans.

Our System Designers can give you more information at your appointment.

Does Fortress offer yearly maintenance?

Absolutely! Yes, in fact, we recommend it. Your yearly maintenance is like getting the oil changed in your car - it is something should always do to ensure maximum efficiency. For a nominal fee, we will come out to your home and check to make sure all of the products we installed previously are working properly. We have many service crews to ensure that your yearly maintenance will be scheduled within an appropriate amount of time.

Does the warranty transfer when I sell my home?

Fortress warranties do transfer from homeowner to homeowner. If you are selling your home, give us a call and we will send you a ‘transfer of warranty' form. It is as simple as that!

How do you ventilate a basement?

Do not open basement windows to ventilate the basement in the summer. Warm air will enter the cooler basement, resulting in condensation. This makes your basement wet and increases the likelihood of mold growth. Instead, invest in a high-performance dehumidification system, like the SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier and air sanitizer.

How long does an estimate take?

Every home and project are different, so giving you an estimated time is difficult. We ask that you allow 90 minutes for the estimate.

How much does an estimate cost?

We do not charge homeowners for an estimate. It is 100% FREE with No obligations. If you are not the homeowner please call the office for further assistance.

How to keep my crawl space from getting moldy?

Mold needs moisture and organic material to survive. It thrives in dark, moist spaces like a crawl space. To prevent mold in your crawl space, it is important to keep humidity and moisture low. The SaniDry Sedona is an energy-efficient dehumidifier, so it reduces humidity without hiking your energy bills. The CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation system keeps moisture away. It is an inorganic vapor barrier, so it doesn't support mold growth.

What is the benefit of encapsulation?

Properly encapsulating your crawl space with a dehumidifier and, if necessary, interior foundation drainage and sump pump will make the structure more durable. Sealing the crawl space keeps out moisture, by controlling relative humidity we are helping prevent mold from growing. Along with installing a dehumidifier, we can control relative humidity, by doing this, we can help ensure a clean, healthy, dry, and temperate crawl space. This results in better indoor air quality and a more comfortable home.

What type of business should be called for seepage in the basement?

A waterproofing company should be called for water seepage in your basement. Fortress Foundation Solutions has over 40 years' combined experience, and we offer free, no obligate estimates. Our system design specialists determine the cause of the seepage and design a solution to keep your basement dry all the time.

When is a foundation crack serious?

It is important to have your home evaluated if you see stair step cracking, inward tilting, bowing, or buckling, or if the crack is leaking - even if only during heavy rains. Fortress Foundation Solutions offers effective, warrantied solutions, and FREE estimates on all services.

Why do I need an Interior Foundation Drain?

The goal of interior foundation drainage is to manage any bulk water entry into the crawl space from either foundation wall penetrations or hydrostatic (ground water) pressure. Interior drainage usually consists of a French drain along the perimeter walls, fed to a sump pump and sent through a discharge line away from the hone 10-12 ft. from the foundation. Keep in mind that not every home needs interior foundation drainage, our Home Performance Advisors will do a thorough inspection your basement and/or crawl space to verify if drainage is necessary.

Why use a dehumidifier in a crawl space?

Drying and filtering the air eliminates damp and musty odors in your crawl space and your home. Fortress Foundation Solutions can help you choose and install the best dehumidifier for your home.
