Concrete Repair in West Mclean, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in West Mclean, Virginia contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing that their concrete patio had begun to slope away from the house and develop wide cracks. Over time, one side of the slab had sunk several inches, creating a visible gap between the patio and the home’s foundation. During rainstorms, water flowed into this gap and toward the basement wall, increasing the risk of moisture intrusion and foundation damage.
The homeowner was also concerned about safety and appearance. The uneven patio created a tripping hazard and made outdoor furniture unstable. In addition, the cracking and sinking concrete greatly reduced the visual appeal of their backyard. They feared that the longer the slab remained unstable, the worse the soil erosion beneath it would become, eventually leading to the need for full replacement.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended lifting and stabilizing the concrete using polyurethane foam injection. Our technicians drilled small holes through the sunken sections of the patio and injected high-density polyurethane beneath the slab. As the foam expanded, it filled voids, compacted loose soil, and gently raised the patio back to a level position.
This method restored the patio without removing any concrete and provided long-term soil stabilization. The foam also acts as a moisture barrier, reducing the chance of future erosion. The repair was completed in just a few hours, and the patio was ready for use the same day.
Once finished, the patio was level, secure, and visually restored. Water no longer flowed toward the foundation, and the homeowner gained peace of mind knowing their outdoor living space was both safe and protected.
