Challenge
A homeowner in Gladstone contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing progressive signs of foundation settlement in their home. Cracks had formed along interior drywall, doors were sticking, and gaps appeared between trim and ceilings. Over time, the symptoms became more noticeable, especially along one side of the home.
During a detailed inspection, our specialist identified settlement along a load-bearing wall caused by unstable, moisture-sensitive soils beneath the foundation footing. Seasonal moisture fluctuations had led to soil shrinkage and consolidation, reducing support under sections of the foundation. Exterior installation was initially considered; however, landscaping features, concrete walkways, and utility lines surrounding the home created significant obstacles that limited access to the exterior footing.
The homeowner needed a permanent stabilization solution that would not disrupt these exterior structures.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended installing a steel Push Pier system, with the piers strategically placed along the interior of the affected foundation wall. Interior installation allowed our team to access the footing without disturbing exterior hardscaping or underground utilities.
Small sections of the basement slab were carefully removed to expose the foundation footing. Heavy-duty steel brackets were securely attached to the foundation, and galvanized steel pier sections were hydraulically driven deep into the ground until stable, load-bearing strata were reached. Using the weight of the home as resistance, each pier achieved proper depth and capacity.
Once all piers were installed, synchronized hydraulic lifting was performed to carefully raise the settled portion of the foundation toward its original elevation. After stabilization was achieved, the slab was restored, leaving the basement clean and structurally secure.
With the Push Pier system in place, the Gladstone home was permanently stabilized, and the homeowner gained peace of mind knowing their foundation was supported by a reliable, long-term solution.
