Foundation Repair in Thurmont, Maryland
Challenge
A homeowner in Thurmont reached out after observing stair-step cracks in their brick exterior and separation along interior drywall seams. Windows had become difficult to open, and gaps appeared between molding and ceilings. These symptoms indicated potential foundation settlement.
Our detailed evaluation confirmed that sections of the foundation were settling due to weak soils beneath the footing. Seasonal rainfall and natural soil consolidation had reduced the bearing capacity under part of the structure. Continued movement could worsen structural misalignment and increase repair costs. The homeowner sought a permanent repair method that would address the root cause of the settlement.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions installed a Push Pier foundation repair system along the affected area. Steel brackets were mounted to the foundation footing, and high-strength galvanized steel piers were hydraulically driven downward until stable soil conditions were reached.
Using the weight of the home as resistance, each pier achieved proper load-bearing capacity. Controlled hydraulic lifting was then performed to restore alignment where possible and permanently stabilize the structure.
Once installation was complete, further settlement was halted. The homeowner immediately noticed improved operation of doors and windows and felt confident knowing their Thurmont home was now permanently stabilized.
