Concrete Repair in Schuyler, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Schuyler contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing their front walkway and porch slab had become uneven over time. One section had settled nearly two inches, creating a noticeable trip hazard for guests and allowing rainwater to collect near the home’s entrance. During colder months, the low areas also contributed to ice buildup, increasing safety concerns.
Our inspection revealed that soil erosion beneath the slab had created voids, leaving portions of the concrete unsupported. Natural settling and moisture infiltration had gradually washed out sections of the underlying soil. While the concrete itself remained structurally sound, the lack of proper support caused the slab to sink unevenly. The homeowner wanted a solution that would restore safety and appearance without the expense and disruption of tearing out and replacing the concrete.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended polyurethane foam injection to lift and stabilize the settled slab. Small, strategically placed holes were drilled into the concrete surface to allow precise foam placement beneath the slab.
High-density expanding polyurethane foam was injected into the voids, filling empty spaces and compacting loose soil. As the foam expanded, it gently raised the slab back to its proper elevation. Once cured, the foam created a durable, moisture-resistant base to prevent further settlement.
The project was completed in a single day, and the walkway was ready for use shortly after installation. The homeowner in Schuyler was pleased with the restored appearance and improved safety of their entryway.
