Concrete Repair in Fairfax, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Fairfax contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing uneven concrete along their front walkway and driveway apron. Over time, one section of the slab had settled nearly two inches, creating a visible lip between panels. The uneven surface posed a tripping hazard for visitors and made snow removal during winter months more difficult. Additionally, rainwater was pooling in the low area and flowing toward the garage rather than away from the home.
During our inspection, we determined that soil settlement and minor erosion beneath the slab had created voids, leaving portions of the concrete unsupported. Fluctuating moisture levels in the surrounding soil had contributed to compaction and washout over the years. Although the concrete itself remained structurally sound with minimal cracking, the lack of stable support caused progressive sinking. The homeowner wanted a permanent solution that would restore proper alignment and drainage without the disruption and expense of complete slab replacement.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended polyurethane foam injection to lift and stabilize the affected concrete. Our team drilled small, strategically placed injection holes through the slab to access the voids beneath.
High-density expanding polyurethane foam was then injected beneath the surface. As the foam expanded, it filled empty spaces, compacted loose soil, and gently lifted the concrete back to its proper elevation. The process was carefully controlled to ensure a smooth, even finish and correct slope for water runoff.
The lightweight yet durable foam cured quickly, forming a strong, moisture-resistant base designed to prevent further settlement. The entire project was completed in a single day with minimal disruption to the homeowner’s property.
After installation, the driveway and walkway in Fairfax were fully leveled and restored to a safe, attractive condition. The homeowner appreciated the fast turnaround, improved drainage, and long-term stability provided by professional concrete lifting and leveling.
