Crawl Space Repair in Lynchburg, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Lynchburg contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing a persistent musty odor inside their home and increased humidity levels during warmer months. The homeowner also mentioned that the floors felt cooler than normal in winter and slightly damp during humid weather. Suspecting the crawl space might be contributing to the issue, they scheduled a professional inspection.
During our evaluation, we found that the crawl space had exposed soil across the entire floor and lacked a proper vapor barrier. Moisture from the ground was freely evaporating into the space, raising humidity levels and causing insulation between the floor joists to sag. There were also early signs of mold beginning to form on wooden framing members. Without proper moisture control, these conditions could lead to structural damage, mold growth, and poor indoor air quality throughout the home.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended a full crawl space encapsulation system to permanently address the moisture problem. Our team first prepared the crawl space by removing loose debris and damaged insulation.
Next, we installed the CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier across the crawl space floor and extended it up the foundation walls. This durable liner sealed off the exposed soil and created a continuous moisture barrier to prevent ground vapor from entering the space.
To maintain proper humidity levels, a SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier was installed. This high-efficiency unit continuously removes excess moisture from the air and keeps the crawl space environment dry and stable.
After installation, the crawl space in Lynchburg was transformed into a clean, dry, and controlled environment. The homeowner quickly noticed improved indoor air quality and greater comfort throughout the home.
