This Culpeper, VA homeowner was looking to make the mildew odors in their home go away. Vented crawl spaces allow warm, humid air to enter during the summer months. When this warm, humid air hits cold things in the crawl space, they lower the temperature of the air and raise the humidity even more!

This hot/humid situation allows organic materials to become mildew and mold. The odors then enter the home, making it a nasty place to live.

Solution

Fortress Foundation Solutions designed a solution that encapsulates the crawl space and keeps the humidity level down, as well as lessening the mildew odors.

This crawl space was accessed from the basement of the home, which led to mildew odors to enter the living spaces.

Here is a shot of the crawl space before work began.

Dimple matting is installed on the floors to allow the ground to dry out if it gets wet. It also protects the CleanSpace from puncturing.

TerraBlock floor insulation is installed to keep the ground from absorbing the heat from the crawl space.

The finished product! You could eat lunch down there now!

A smart drain was installed with an alarm to alert the homeowners if a pipe were to leak below the home.
