Crawl Space Encapsulation in Hardy Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Hardy, Virginia began noticing an increase in insects and small rodents inside their home, particularly during warmer months. After sealing entry points and setting traps with little success, they suspected the problem might be originating below the home. A crawl space inspection revealed damp soil, high humidity, and organic debris — the perfect environment for pests to thrive. In addition to the pest issue, the homeowner noticed musty odors rising into the living space and worried about long-term damage to the home’s structure.
Solution
Our System Design Specialist determined that moisture control was the key to solving both the pest problem and the air quality concerns. The crawl space was fully encapsulated using the CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier, sealing the ground and foundation walls to eliminate moisture intrusion and drastically reduce humidity. By creating a sealed, controlled environment, the crawl space was no longer attractive to pests.
To ensure the space remained dry year-round, we installed the SaniDry™ Sedona dehumidifier, which continuously filters and dries the air. Following installation, pest activity dropped significantly, odors disappeared, and the homeowner gained peace of mind knowing their crawl space was clean, dry, and protected.
