Crawl Space Repair in Paint Bank, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Paint Bank, Virginia contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing persistent moisture problems in their crawl space. The home was located in a rural, mountainous area where rainwater frequently collected around the foundation. After heavy rainfall, water pooled on the crawl space floor, saturating the exposed soil and creating a damp environment that lingered for days. The homeowner also noticed sagging insulation, wood beams that felt damp to the touch, and a strong musty odor spreading into the living areas above.
Because the crawl space was vented, humid outside air entered freely, especially during warmer months. This moisture combined with groundwater intrusion to create ideal conditions for mold growth and wood rot. The homeowner became concerned about the long-term health of the home, including potential structural damage, rising energy costs, and declining indoor air quality. Temporary fixes like plastic sheeting and fans failed to control the moisture. They wanted a permanent solution that would fully seal and protect the crawl space.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions installed the CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier System to fully encapsulate the crawl space. This heavy-duty liner was installed across the floor and up the foundation walls, sealing out ground moisture and humidity. Seams were carefully sealed to create a continuous moisture barrier.
To control airborne moisture and improve air quality, we installed the SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier, which efficiently removes excess humidity and filters mold spores and allergens. With the crawl space fully sealed and conditioned, moisture levels dropped dramatically.
The homeowner immediately noticed improved air quality throughout the home and gained confidence knowing their crawl space was clean, dry, and permanently protected.
