Crawl Space Repair in Millboro, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Millboro contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing persistent dampness beneath their home and a musty odor that seemed to linger indoors. During colder months, the floors felt unusually chilly, and in the summer, humidity levels inside the home were noticeably higher. The homeowner became increasingly concerned when they discovered dark staining along some of the wooden beams in the crawl space.
During our inspection, it was clear that the crawl space had an exposed dirt floor with no vapor barrier in place. Ground moisture was freely evaporating into the space, creating consistently high humidity levels. Seasonal rainfall and poor grading around the home further contributed to damp conditions. Over time, this moisture had begun affecting insulation and structural wood components. Left unaddressed, the environment could promote mold growth and wood rot. The homeowner wanted a permanent solution that would protect the structure and improve indoor air quality.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended full encapsulation using the CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier System. The heavy-duty liner was professionally installed across the crawl space floor and extended up the foundation walls, sealing out ground moisture and preventing vapor intrusion. All seams were tightly secured to create a continuous protective barrier.
To ensure long-term humidity control, a SaniDry™ Sedona dehumidifier was installed to actively regulate moisture levels year-round. After installation, the crawl space became clean, dry, and stable. The homeowner immediately noticed fresher air and improved comfort throughout their Millboro home.
