Crawl Space Repair in Hagerstown, Maryland
Challenge
A homeowner in Hagerstown contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing a persistent musty odor throughout their home. The smell was strongest near the floors, and humidity levels inside the house seemed unusually high during the summer months. Upon inspecting the crawl space, the homeowner discovered exposed soil, damp insulation, and condensation along the ductwork.
During our professional evaluation, it became clear that moisture from the dirt floor was continuously evaporating into the crawl space. Seasonal rainfall and high groundwater levels were contributing to elevated humidity beneath the home. Over time, the excess moisture had begun to affect wooden support beams and insulation, creating conditions favorable for mold growth. Without proper moisture control, structural damage and declining indoor air quality were likely to worsen. The homeowner wanted a permanent solution that would eliminate moisture at its source.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended full encapsulation using the CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier System. The heavy-duty liner was installed across the crawl space floor and up the foundation walls, sealing out ground moisture and creating a continuous protective barrier.
To maintain consistent humidity control, a SaniDry™ Sedona dehumidifier was installed to actively remove excess moisture from the air. After installation, the crawl space became dry, clean, and stable. The homeowner immediately noticed improved air quality and greater comfort throughout their Hagerstown home.
