Crawl Space Repair in Dumfries, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Dumfries contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing persistent musty odors inside their home, particularly during humid summer months. Floors on the main level felt damp at times, and the homeowner had begun to experience worsening seasonal allergies. Upon entering the crawl space, they discovered visible moisture on the floor, deteriorating insulation hanging between joists, and early signs of mold growth on wooden framing members.
Our inspection revealed that the crawl space had excessive ground moisture and high humidity levels. The exposed soil allowed vapor to rise freely into the space, while poor ventilation failed to control humidity effectively. Over time, this damp environment created ideal conditions for mold growth, wood rot, and declining indoor air quality. The homeowner wanted a permanent solution that would protect their home’s structure and improve overall comfort.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended a full crawl space encapsulation using the CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier and the SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier. First, the crawl space was cleaned and prepped, and any loose debris was removed.
The CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier was then professionally installed across the entire floor and extended up the foundation walls, sealing off the earth and blocking ground moisture from entering the space. All seams were carefully secured to create a continuous moisture barrier.
Next, the SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier was installed to actively control humidity levels and maintain a dry, healthy environment year-round.
After installation, the crawl space in Dumfries was transformed into a clean, dry, and controlled environment. The homeowner noticed improved indoor air quality and greater comfort throughout the home.
