Crawl Space Repair in Buena Vista, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Buena Vista contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing a strong musty odor spreading throughout the main floor of their home. Over time, the homeowner also observed that their hardwood floors felt slightly damp during humid summer months. Suspecting the crawl space might be the source of the problem, they scheduled an inspection with our team.
During our evaluation, we discovered that the crawl space had exposed soil across most of the floor and no effective vapor barrier in place. Ground moisture was evaporating directly into the crawl space, raising humidity levels and creating damp conditions beneath the home. Several sections of insulation had already begun to sag from prolonged exposure to moisture, and condensation was forming on HVAC ductwork. These conditions created an environment where mold growth and wood rot could eventually develop if the issue was not addressed.
The homeowner wanted a permanent solution that would eliminate moisture problems and improve the overall air quality in their home.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended a complete crawl space encapsulation system to control moisture and protect the home’s structure. Our team first cleared debris and prepared the crawl space for installation.
Next, we installed the CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier across the entire crawl space floor and extended it up the foundation walls to create a continuous moisture seal. This durable liner prevents ground vapor from entering the crawl space and helps maintain a cleaner environment beneath the home.
To ensure long-term humidity control, a SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier was installed. This high-efficiency system continuously removes excess moisture from the air and maintains balanced humidity levels year-round.
Once the installation was complete, the crawl space in Buena Vista was transformed into a dry, controlled environment. The homeowner noticed improved air quality and greater comfort throughout the home.
