Crawl Space Repair in Front Royal, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Front Royal contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing a persistent musty odor throughout their home and elevated humidity levels during the warmer months. The homeowner also mentioned that their floors felt damp at times and that allergy symptoms seemed to worsen when humidity increased. Concerned that the issue might be coming from beneath the home, they requested a crawl space inspection.
During our evaluation, we found that the crawl space had exposed soil across the entire floor and lacked an effective vapor barrier. Moisture from the ground was freely evaporating into the space, raising humidity levels and creating damp conditions beneath the home. Several sections of insulation between the floor joists had already begun to sag due to prolonged exposure to moisture. Additionally, condensation was visible on ductwork running through the crawl space. If left untreated, these conditions could lead to mold growth, wood rot, and declining indoor air quality.
The homeowner wanted a long-term solution that would eliminate moisture issues and protect the structure of their home.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended a full crawl space encapsulation system. Our team first cleaned and prepared the crawl space by removing debris and damaged insulation.
Next, the CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier was installed across the entire crawl space floor and extended up the foundation walls to create a continuous moisture seal. This durable liner blocks ground vapor from entering the crawl space and helps maintain a clean environment beneath the home.
To maintain balanced humidity levels year-round, we installed a SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier. This high-efficiency unit continuously removes excess moisture from the air and keeps the crawl space dry and controlled.
After installation, the crawl space in Front Royal became a dry, protected space. The homeowner noticed improved air quality and greater comfort throughout the home.
