Crawl Space Repair in Brightwood, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Brightwood contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing a persistent musty odor throughout their home and increased humidity levels indoors during the summer months. The homeowner also mentioned that certain areas of the floor felt slightly damp and cooler than normal. Suspecting the crawl space might be contributing to the problem, they scheduled a professional inspection.
During our evaluation, we discovered that the crawl space had exposed soil across most of the floor and no effective vapor barrier installed. Ground moisture was evaporating freely into the crawl space, raising humidity levels and creating damp conditions beneath the home. Several sections of insulation had begun to sag due to prolonged exposure to moisture, and condensation was forming on HVAC ductwork. If left untreated, these conditions could eventually lead to mold growth and structural wood damage.
The homeowner wanted a permanent solution that would eliminate moisture problems and improve the overall health of the crawl space.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended a complete crawl space encapsulation system. Our team first prepared the area by removing debris and damaged insulation from the crawl space.
Next, the CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier was installed across the entire crawl space floor and extended up the foundation walls to create a continuous moisture barrier. This durable liner prevents ground vapor from entering the crawl space and helps maintain a cleaner environment beneath the home.
To further control humidity, a SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier was installed to continuously remove excess moisture from the air and maintain balanced humidity levels year-round.
After installation, the crawl space in Brightwood was transformed into a dry, controlled space. The homeowner immediately noticed improved indoor comfort and greater peace of mind knowing their home was protected from moisture-related damage.
