Crawl Space Encapsulation in Lost City, West Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Lost City contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing a strong musty odor throughout their home and increased humidity levels, especially during the summer. The homeowner also reported that their floors felt damp and slightly cooler than usual. Concerned about potential moisture issues beneath the home, they scheduled a professional crawl space inspection.
During our evaluation, we found that the crawl space had exposed soil and no effective vapor barrier. Moisture from the ground was freely evaporating into the space, raising humidity levels and creating damp conditions. Insulation between the floor joists had begun to sag due to prolonged exposure to moisture, and condensation was forming on HVAC ductwork. These conditions created an ideal environment for mold growth and structural deterioration if not addressed.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended a full crawl space encapsulation system to eliminate the moisture problem. Our team began by cleaning and preparing the crawl space, removing debris and damaged insulation.
We then installed the CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier across the entire crawl space floor and up the foundation walls to create a continuous moisture seal. This durable liner blocks ground vapor and helps maintain a dry environment beneath the home.
To ensure long-term humidity control, a SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier was installed to continuously remove excess moisture and regulate humidity levels.
