Crawl Space Repair in Christiansburg, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Christiansburg, Janice, contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing a persistent musty odor throughout her home and elevated humidity levels during the warmer months. She also mentioned that her floors felt damp and slightly cooler than usual, especially after periods of heavy rain.
During our inspection, we found that the crawl space had exposed soil and lacked a proper vapor barrier. Moisture from the ground was freely evaporating into the space, creating high humidity levels and damp conditions beneath the home. Insulation between the floor joists had begun to sag due to prolonged moisture exposure, and condensation was visible on ductwork.
These conditions created an environment that could lead to mold growth and structural damage if left untreated.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended a full crawl space encapsulation system to eliminate the moisture problem. Our team prepared the space by removing debris and damaged insulation.
We then installed the CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier across the crawl space floor and extended it up the foundation walls to create a continuous moisture seal. This durable liner blocks ground vapor and helps maintain a dry, clean environment.
To control humidity levels year-round, we installed a SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier. This system continuously removes excess moisture from the air and keeps the crawl space stable.
After installation, Janice’s crawl space in Christiansburg was transformed into a dry, controlled space. She noticed improved air quality and increased comfort throughout her home.
