Challenge
A homeowner in Staunton, Sommer, contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing cold floors in the winter and a persistent damp odor throughout her home. The issue became more noticeable after heavy rainfall, leading her to suspect the crawl space was the source of the problem.
During our evaluation, we found exposed dirt floors, elevated humidity levels, and insulation that had begun to break down due to moisture exposure. Ground vapor was entering the crawl space without restriction, creating a damp environment that could eventually lead to mold growth and structural concerns.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended a complete crawl space encapsulation system to permanently address the issue. Our team installed the CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier across the crawl space floor and extended it up the foundation walls, creating a continuous moisture barrier.
To maintain proper humidity levels and protect the space long-term, we installed a SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier to continuously remove excess moisture from the air.
After installation, Sommer’s crawl space in Staunton was transformed into a clean, dry, and controlled environment. She gained peace of mind knowing her home was protected and that the crawl space would remain stable and healthy for years to come.
