Crawl Space Encapsulation in Schuyler, Virginia
Challenge
Greg Smith in Schuyler didn’t spend much time thinking about his crawl space—until the problems inside his home started pointing straight to it.
He noticed a lingering damp smell, especially in the mornings, and certain areas of his floors felt slightly soft underfoot. It wasn’t dramatic, but it was enough to raise concern.
After a heavy stretch of rain, the issue became more noticeable, so he decided to have it checked out.
During our inspection, we found elevated humidity levels, exposed soil, and insulation that had already begun to break down from moisture exposure. The crawl space was essentially holding onto moisture and allowing it to affect the rest of the home.
Solution
To fix the issue at its source, we installed a full encapsulation system.
The CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier was installed across the crawl space floor and walls to lock out ground moisture. We added SilverGlo™ insulation to improve energy efficiency and help regulate temperatures beneath the home.
To ensure the space stayed dry long-term, we installed a SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier to actively control humidity levels.
By the time we finished, Greg’s crawl space had been completely transformed. The damp smell disappeared, the environment beneath the home was stable, and he no longer had to wonder what was going on below his floors.
