Concrete Repair in Salem, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Salem contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing their driveway had developed uneven sections over time. One slab had settled nearly two inches lower than the adjacent section, creating a noticeable lip and trip hazard. Water also began pooling in the low area after rainfall, accelerating surface wear and increasing the risk of winter ice buildup.
The homeowner initially considered full replacement but was concerned about cost, disruption, and the time required for demolition and repouring concrete. During our inspection, we determined the concrete itself was structurally sound. The issue stemmed from soil settlement beneath the slab, likely caused by erosion and natural compaction over time. Voids had formed underneath the concrete, leaving portions unsupported and allowing them to sink. The homeowner wanted a long-lasting solution that would restore safety and appearance without complete replacement.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended polyurethane concrete lifting and leveling. Small, strategically placed holes were drilled into the affected slab to allow for precise foam injection.
High-density polyurethane foam was then injected beneath the concrete. As the foam expanded, it filled voids and compacted loose soil, gently lifting the slab back toward its original position.
The material cured quickly, forming a stable, moisture-resistant base beneath the driveway.
The entire process was completed in a single day, and the driveway was ready for use shortly after installation. The slab was restored to a safe, level condition, and the homeowner avoided the cost and inconvenience of full replacement.
