Concrete Repair in Columbia, Maryland
Challenge
A homeowner in Columbia contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing their front walkway had become uneven over time. One section of concrete had settled nearly two inches, creating a noticeable trip hazard and causing water to pool near the home’s entryway during rainstorms. The homeowner was concerned about both safety and long-term water damage.
Our inspection revealed that soil erosion beneath the slab had created voids, leaving portions of the concrete unsupported. While the slab itself remained structurally intact, continued settlement could lead to cracking and further misalignment. The homeowner wanted a cost-effective solution that would restore the walkway without full replacement.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended polyurethane concrete lifting. Small, strategically placed holes were drilled into the slab to allow for controlled foam injection.
High-density polyurethane foam was injected beneath the concrete, expanding to fill voids and compact loose soil. As the foam expanded, it gently lifted the slab back into proper alignment. The material cured quickly, creating a stable, moisture-resistant base beneath the walkway.
The project was completed in a single day, and the surface was ready for use shortly after. The walkway was restored to a safe, level condition without the expense or disruption of replacement.
