Concrete Repair in Staunton, Virginia
Challenge
The Staunton Redevelopment and Housing Authority contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing uneven concrete slabs on a sidewalk. Over time, sections of the concrete had settled, creating an uneven surface that made outdoor spaces less safe and functional for residents. The uneven slabs also caused water to collect in low spots after rainfall, increasing the risk of further deterioration.
As the issue progressed, the uneven concrete became a safety concern, creating potential trip hazards and limiting the usability of the space. The Authority wanted a reliable solution that would restore the surface while minimizing disruption to residents.
During our inspection, we determined that shifting and compacting soils beneath the concrete had created voids, allowing sections of the slab to sink. Without proper stabilization, the problem would likely continue to worsen over time.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended our concrete lifting and leveling system using polyurethane foam injection. Our team drilled small, precise holes into the affected slabs and injected high-density foam beneath the surface.
As the foam expanded, it filled the voids and gently lifted the concrete back to its original position while stabilizing the underlying soil. This method allowed for a fast, non-invasive repair with minimal disruption to the surrounding area and residents.
Once the project was completed, the sidewalk surface was restored to a safe, level condition. Water no longer pooled on the surface, and the space was once again functional and accessible. The Staunton Redevelopment and Housing Authority appreciated the efficient, cost-effective solution and the long-term stability it provided.
