Basement Waterproofing in Flint Hill, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Flint Hill, Virginia reached out to Fortress Foundation Solutions after experiencing repeated basement flooding during periods of heavy rain. Even moderate storms caused water to seep through the foundation walls and collect along the basement floor. The homeowner stored seasonal items, tools, and household supplies in the basement, and many of these had already been damaged by moisture. The air was constantly damp, and a strong musty odor lingered throughout the space.
The homeowner also noticed peeling paint, efflorescence on the walls, and rust forming on metal shelving. They were concerned that continued moisture could weaken the foundation and create a serious mold problem. While they had tried using a basic sump pump and a small dehumidifier, these temporary measures were not able to keep up with the volume of water entering the basement. They needed a reliable, long-term solution that would protect their home and restore the basement to a safe, usable condition.
Solution
A System Design Specialist from Fortress Foundation Solutions performed a full inspection and identified hydrostatic pressure as the primary cause of the water intrusion. To intercept water before it reached the basement floor, our team installed the WaterGuard® Interior Drainage System around the entire perimeter of the basement. This system captures groundwater as it enters through the wall and floor joint and directs it safely away.
The drainage system was connected to the TripleSafe™ Sump Pump System, which provides three layers of protection, including a battery-powered backup to keep the basement protected during power outages. To eliminate humidity and improve air quality, we installed the SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier, which efficiently removes moisture and filters airborne particles.
After installation, the basement remained dry even during heavy storms. The musty odor disappeared, stored items were protected, and the homeowner gained confidence knowing their basement was permanently safeguarded.
