Basement Waterproofing in Paeonian Spring
Challenge
A homeowner in Paeonian Spring, Virginia contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing water rising through small cracks in their basement floor following heavy rainfall. The basement was unfinished but used regularly for storage, laundry, and household projects. During storms, thin streams of water would spread across the concrete floor, soaking boxes and creating slick, hazardous conditions. Over time, a strong musty odor developed, and white mineral stains began forming along the lower portions of the foundation walls, indicating prolonged moisture exposure.
The homeowner had tried using a portable sump pump and running fans to dry the area, but the water always returned after the next storm. They were increasingly worried that constant moisture could lead to mold growth, damage stored belongings, and weaken the foundation over time. They wanted a permanent waterproofing solution that would stop water at its source rather than just manage the symptoms.
Solution
After a thorough inspection, Fortress Foundation Solutions determined that hydrostatic pressure beneath the foundation was forcing groundwater up through the basement floor and wall joints. To address this issue, we installed the WaterGuard® Interior Drainage System along the entire perimeter of the basement. This sub-floor system collects water as soon as it enters and safely directs it to a sump system before it can reach the surface.
The WaterGuard system was connected to the TripleSafe™ Sump Pump System, which features three pumps for dependable performance, including a battery backup to ensure protection even during power outages. To control humidity and eliminate damp air, we also installed the SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier, which efficiently removes moisture and filters airborne particles that contribute to odors and mold growth.
Once the system was in place, the basement stayed completely dry, even after heavy rain. The musty smell disappeared, stored items remained protected, and the homeowner gained confidence knowing their basement was permanently safeguarded.
