Basement Waterproofing in Roanoke, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Roanoke contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing water seeping into their basement during periods of heavy rain. The issue first appeared as damp spots along the perimeter walls but gradually worsened into small puddles forming near one corner of the space. The homeowner also reported a musty odor that lingered even during dry weather, raising concerns about potential mold growth.
During our inspection, we found that hydrostatic pressure from saturated soil surrounding the foundation was forcing groundwater through the wall-floor joint and small cracks in the concrete. The basement lacked a proper interior drainage system, which meant water entering the space had no controlled path for removal. Without intervention, the problem would likely worsen over time and could lead to damage to stored items and the home’s structure.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended a comprehensive basement waterproofing system to address the issue. Our team installed a WaterGuard® sub-floor drainage system along the interior perimeter of the basement to capture groundwater before it reached the surface.
The system was connected to a TripleSafe™ sump pump, which provides reliable water removal and backup protection during heavy storms. To further improve the environment, a SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier was installed to control humidity levels and reduce the risk of mold growth.
