Wet basement repair in Staunton Virginia
Challenge
Ms. Baker called us out to her home to inspect why, during a light rainstorm, she ended up with wet socks after stepping onto the carpet in her finished basement. She had never had any water issues before and had recently just put new carpet down there.
She didn’t know what to do, so she started to Google the causes of wet carpet in a basement. A few websites led her to the conclusion of groundwater seepage, so she researched reputable waterproofing companies in her area. She came across the Fortress Foundation Solutions website and read a few of our 5-star reviews. She wanted us to come out and inspect her problem.
She called our call center, and swiftly, we sent out Joe, one of our System Designers. Joe went out to her home to do a complete inspection. Upon his inspection, using his hygrometer, he found high water content hiding within her finished walls and throughout her still-wet carpet.
Joe wrote up a solution: 30 ft. of whole wall removal, 30 ft. of WaterGuard, one TripleSafe sump pump, 20 ft. of exterior discharge line to get the water as far away from her property as possible, and 20 ft. of CleanSpace Wall System to catch any water or humidity that may try to find its way through her porous concrete walls.
Solution
Gustavo was the foreman assigned to this home. Gustavo and his team effectively demoed the walls, jackhammered the perimeter of the flooring to find the top of the footer, and installed our WaterGuard system along with clean crushed stone.
They then fastened our CleanSpace Wall System to the concrete walls and tied everything directly into our TripleSafe sump pump system, which was connected to a 20 ft. exterior discharge line to get the water appropriately distanced from the home. They then covered all exposed flooring with concrete.
They swept up any remaining dust and/or dirt they may have dragged in and left Ms. Baker’s home cleaner, healthier, and drier than how they found it. Now, with a lifetime of the structure warranty and proper maintenance, Ms. Baker can sleep peacefully knowing she will never experience a leak in her basement again.
