Foundation Repair in Dayton, Maryland
Challenge
A homeowner in Dayton contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing growing structural issues throughout their home. Cracks had formed along interior drywall, particularly above doorways and windows, and several doors no longer closed properly. The homeowner also felt a noticeable slope in the floors near one corner of the house, which had become more pronounced over time.
An inspection revealed that the home was experiencing foundation settlement due to weak soil beneath the footing. Seasonal moisture changes caused the soil to expand when wet and contract during dry periods, reducing its ability to support the structure consistently. As a result, portions of the foundation settled unevenly, transferring stress to the framing and interior finishes. The homeowner worried that continued settlement would lead to worsening damage and potentially costly structural repairs if left unresolved.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended stabilizing the foundation with a Push Pier system. Steel push piers were installed along the affected foundation walls and hydraulically driven deep into the ground until they reached stable, load-bearing soil. Once proper resistance was achieved, the weight of the home was transferred from the unstable soil to the pier system.
Controlled lifting was performed where possible to help restore the foundation closer to its original elevation. After installation, further settlement was immediately halted. The homeowner regained confidence knowing their home was permanently supported by a durable, long-term solution.
