Foundation Repair in Martinsville, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Martinsville contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing widening cracks in their foundation and brick veneer. The floor in one corner of the home felt noticeably lower, and interior walls showed visible signs of separation. Over time, the movement appeared to worsen, particularly following extended periods of rainfall.
Our inspection revealed that fluctuating soil moisture conditions had compromised the supporting soils beneath the foundation footing. This had caused uneven settlement along a portion of the structure. Without corrective action, continued movement could result in more significant structural damage and costly repairs. The homeowner wanted a dependable, permanent solution to stabilize their home.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended installing a Push Pier system to permanently address the settlement issue. Excavation exposed the foundation footing, and heavy-duty brackets were installed to securely connect the steel piers to the structure.
Hydraulic equipment drove the pier sections deep into stable load-bearing soil. Once adequate resistance was achieved, synchronized lifting was performed to carefully raise the settled portion of the foundation where possible. The piers were locked into place, permanently transferring the structural load to competent soil below.
With the installation complete, the Martinsville home was fully stabilized, preventing further settlement and restoring structural confidence for the homeowner.
