Foundation Repair in Bethesda, Maryland
Challenge
A homeowner in Bethesda reached out to Fortress Foundation Solutions after observing widening cracks in their basement walls and noticeable separation between the wall and ceiling trim. The home had experienced gradual settlement over several years, and recent heavy rainfall appeared to worsen the issue.
Our evaluation confirmed foundation settlement along one load-bearing wall. The soil beneath that portion of the home had shifted and consolidated, allowing the foundation to sink unevenly. Because the home featured limited exterior access due to tight property lines and mature landscaping, exterior pier installation was not practical. The homeowner needed a permanent stabilization method that could be completed from inside the basement.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions designed an interior Push Pier system tailored to the home’s layout. Sections of the basement floor were carefully opened to expose the footing, and specialized steel brackets were attached securely.
Steel push piers were then driven hydraulically through the brackets until they reached stable load-bearing soil deep below the surface. Once installed, the system transferred the weight of the home from unstable upper soils to more competent strata. Where possible, controlled lifting was performed to improve structural alignment.
After the piers were installed and the foundation stabilized, the basement slab was restored. The homeowner in Bethesda appreciated the minimally disruptive process and the long-term structural security provided by the interior Push Pier solution.
