Foundation Settlement Repair in Charlottesville, Virginia
Challenge
Mr. Marshall, a homeowner in Charlottesville, contacted us at Fortress after noticing several signs of foundation settlement around his home. Cracks had begun forming along the exterior brickwork, particularly near the corners of the structure, and several interior doors were no longer closing properly.
We sent out a System Designer to perform a FREE inspection of the home and we determined that the home was experiencing differential settlement due to unstable, moisture-sensitive soils beneath the foundation. Over time, fluctuations in soil moisture had caused the ground to shift and compact, leading to portions of the foundation settling unevenly.
Solution
Fortress Foundation Solutions recommended the installation of a Push Pier system to stabilize and potentially lift the affected sections of the foundation. Our team installed heavy-duty steel push piers at strategic locations along the settling areas of the home, driving them deep into stable, load-bearing soil.
Once the piers reached proper depth, controlled hydraulic lifting was performed to carefully raise the foundation toward its original position. This process helped correct the uneven settlement and reduce stress on the structure.
