Bowing Wall Repair in Staunton, Virginia
Challenge
A homeowner in Staunton, Chris, contacted Fortress Foundation Solutions after noticing horizontal cracks forming along one of his basement walls. Over time, the cracks had widened, and the wall began to show visible signs of bowing inward near the center. Chris became concerned about the safety and structural integrity of his home, especially after heavy rain when the surrounding soil became saturated.
If left unaddressed, the bowing wall could continue to move and potentially lead to structural failure. Chris wanted a permanent solution that would stabilize the wall without requiring extensive excavation around the home.
Solution
We recommended the installation of the PowerBrace® Wall Repair System to stabilize and reinforce the bowing foundation wall. Our team custom-fit heavy-duty steel PowerBrace® beams to the height of the basement and installed them vertically along the affected wall.
Each PowerBrace® was securely anchored to the basement floor and attached to the floor joists above, creating a strong support system that counteracts the inward pressure from the surrounding soil. Once installed, the system immediately stopped further movement of the wall.
One of the key benefits of the PowerBrace® system is its adjustable design, which allows for gradual straightening of the wall over time as conditions permit.
After installation, Chris’s basement wall in Staunton was fully stabilized.
