Basement floor support in Spotsylvania, Virginia
Challenge
In Spotsylvania, Virginia, Mr. Avery was experiencing soft, sagging floors above his basement - most noticeably in his kitchen. He already had wooden support columns in place and was confused as to why he was still having issues.
After seeing numerous advertisements online, he gave Fortress a call. Cara was able to come out on short notice and perform a full evaluation of Mr. Avery’s basement. She set up lasers and carefully took measurements until she found the problem: the wooden columns simply were not built to carry that kind of weight.
Cara prepared a solution using our SmartJack XL system - a real, long-lasting solution to Mr. Avery’s problem.
Solution
After Mr. Avery agreed to Cara’s solution, Nick B. and his crew came out to assess the job. They followed Cara’s inspection plan and carefully marked where the work would need to be completed.
To keep the home clean, the team taped off all surrounding areas from floor to ceiling to prevent dust from spreading while they jackhammered the floor to create the proper stone and concrete footing for the SmartJack XL system.
The crew then installed an 18-foot supplemental beam across the ceiling, lining it with the floor joists for proper support. Once that was complete, they installed the SmartJack XLs attached to the supplemental beam.
Now, Mr. Avery’s kitchen is properly supported and has been lifted back toward its original position.
